The Middle Street Gallery was established in 1982 as a commercial gallery and frame shop. A couple years later it moved to its present location and transformed itself into an artists’ co-operative. Since that time it has been the area’s only not-for-profit visual arts space providing exhibition opportunities for regional artists. The gallery is operated by artist-members who volunteer their time and energy, overseeing and planning exhibitions that change monthly. In part, the gallery’s mission is to stimulate interaction between artists and the community, and promote quality and innovation in the arts.
