From its inception in the late 1800s, the art of photography has progressed hand in hand with the technology of photography. Photogravure, gelatin silver prints and film, chemicals and papers have all led up to the transformation that we are experiencing today. The advent of digital photography has ushered in a new era in fine art.

But, technology notwithstanding, what we look for in a photograph is the emotional experience. What do we feel when we look within the frame? Does the picture resonate with us? Does it delight, inspire, enchant us? Does it reach to the darker depths of the soul? Is something revealed or hidden? Is it simply beautiful?

At Old Rag Photography, we present the work in both digital and film of several noteworthy artists, many of whom now call the foothills of the Blue Ridge home. This peaceful, naturally beautiful area is full of wonders and inspires the making of art in its many forms. We hope you will find our selections as captivating and enriching as we do.
