Patricia Underwood

Trained in drawing and as a printmaker, and using a 27-in-wide etching press at her studio in Castleton, Underwood produces prints on hand-made paper—etching, collographs, and monoprints—onto which she applies complex and richly textured media. To Underwood, “these mixed media—oil, watercolor, wax, beads and caulk—are not just tools for an academic exercise in color and design, but play a huge part in each piece’s meaning. My work evokes nature, human spirituality, and healing. Each body of work is made as a series, each with several pieces that embrace a cultural issue or human condition in different ways.”
