Benita Rauda GowenRauda Gowen is a watercolorist whose work is evolving. As a watercolorist doing flowers and landscapes, her greatest inspiration comes from nature, but her recent art explores form and color in abstract collages that use a variety of materials – bright fabrics from around the world, yarns, and multi-hued papers. “I like to do a series of paintings that let me experiment with how changes in color, for instance, affect the mood of the work.” Eight years ago she and her husband moved to Rappahannock County, which reminds her of her childhood in Latvia. “I’m elated by the beauty of this area, and it never fails to move me. I hope this passion shows in my work.”
