Nan McEvoy

Nan McEvoy (resume) comes into hand making felt for the love of llamas and their fiber, and the tradition of learning and demonstrating the making of the oldest textile in the world. Her herd of 10 llamas was bred at Skye High Farm in Flint Hill, Virginia, specifically with fine fiber as a goal. Today, the handmade felt is turned into one-of-a-kind felted items including fedora style hats and other accessories. There appears to be little written evidence regarding felt’s origins, but there are references enough to build up a picture of felt use going back to the Bronze Age (tents, clothing, shields, hats). Today, artisans, like McEvoy, are learning ancient and modern skills to co-create with the animals a beautiful, durable, wearable fabric.
