RAAC Coloring Book
The RAAC coloring book was created with the idea of providing hospitalized children at local hospitals with a comforting, pictorial reminder of home. Its highly varied art images work as a creative art education tool to brighten their day as they color-in the pages. The book's contributors are well-recognized local artists, most of whom are regulars in RAAC's annual Artist Studio Tour upcoming this fall.
This project is the brainchild of RAAC Board Member Kevin Adams, who was once an artist-in-residence in a large hospital. He notes that "Rappahannock County does not have a hospital of its own and all of us who reside here are grateful for those in neighboring counties that offer us their services." To date, we have donated 600 copies of the RAAC coloring book to benefit young patients at Fauquier Hospital and Culpeper Regional Hospital. In addition, copies of this first-ever RAAC coloring book will be offered to the public for a donation of ten dollars or more to the Claudia Mitchell Memorial Arts Fund which supports a variety of community arts projects.
The books are already a hit with youngsters. Cynthia Colson, Executive Director of Culpeper Regional Hospital Foundation, expressed gratitude and said, "The children have been enjoying the coloring books. We had two young children this afternoon in the emergency department - a 4 year old and a 5 year old. It is gratifying to see children able to escape their surrounding for a little while and become absorbed in their coloring."
