RAAC’s Special Events

On Friday, January 8, at 8 p.m., RAAC’s Second Friday at the Library Series will host digital media consultant and journalist Randy Rieland at the Rappahannock County Library. There is no charge for this event.

Rieland will give you the lowdown in “Facebook, Twitter, and the Digital Swirl: What to Know, What to Ignore.”

Can Facebook change your life or it a colossal waste of time? What about Twitter? Is it as silly as it sounds? Or can it actually have a purpose? And what can we expect next from the digital world where the Latest Big Thing seems to pop up overnight.

Rieland has witnessed first-hand the explosive growth of digital media since being part of the team that launched the Discovery Channel’s website in 1995. During his tenure at Discovery Communications, he also has overseen the websites supporting the TV networks TLC, Animal Planet, Travel Channel, Science Channel, and Discovery Health. Most recently he served as Senior Vice President of Digital Media for the Discovery Channel, a role that required him to shape the strategy for how the popular brand could be extended on to the various digital media platforms.

On Saturday, January 16, Soup & Soul will host opera singer Peter Castaldi.

Baritone Peter Castaldi was born in Paris, raised in Milan, completed his musical training in New York, and now calls Rappahannock County his part-time home, when he’s not singing with the New York City Opera or performing all over the world! He just completed a run with the NYC Opera with their reopening performance of Esther, the first in their acoustically revamped theater.

Tickets are $20 per person per event (plus participants are asked to bring a dish to complement the soup offered by our hosts). You can send an email request for reservations to soupnsoul@raac.org or call RAAC at 540-675-3193. Upon receipt of payment, your reservation will be confirmed and you will be sent details about the events, including directions. (Checks made out to RAAC can be sent to RAAC at PO Box 24, Washington, VA 22747).
