Overview
The Claudia Mitchell Memorial Arts Fund was established in early 2009 with an anchor legacy from our dear former president Claudia Mitchell. The fund’s purpose is to provide grants and opportunities for emerging artists and otherwise to promote innovation in the arts, in all media, in the Rappahannock area.
RAAC is in the process of establishing a Mitchell Fund Committee that, as a first step, will soon launch a pilot program of mini-grants for new artists. Grants of up to $100 will be made to support the development of young artists engaged in any of the visual or performing arts.
The intent is not simply to offer financial awards but also to inspire mentoring relationships, identify the interests and potential of emerging artists, and lay the groundwork for more expansive Mitchell Fund projects and partnerships.
Applications may be submitted either by the artist or by a sponsor in support of the artist. Applicants will be asked to meet with a RAAC representative who will develop an understanding of the artist’s interests, offer assistance and suggestions, and make appropriate arrangements for payment of approved grants.
Grants may be used for purposes such as:
